First Dance

"We found Xixi's website and felt that her experience and willingness to structure lessons around us was just what we were looking for.  Xixi really listens to the music chosen and creates a dance that is manageable even for beginners from the start to the finish.  We feel ready for our first dance, and we can't wait to foxtrot to our song!"   - Jamie Dowers and Kurt Ericson

You will receive a tailored wedding dance package specially designed and planned just for you. Some engaged couples want to learn a basic dance, while others might want to dance like the pros on the floor.  Xixi makes all of her students feel that they can really connect and express their love for each other through their First Dance.

To help prepare you for your First Dance, you will be guided through every single step and movement that you learn.  Each lesson is built upon the previous.  By the end of your lessons, you will learn the entrance to your First Dance, the graceful movements, and the beautiful ending to your special dance.  You will understand how to hold each other in balance and beautiful frame, how to dance to the rhythm, and how to be each other's partner in dance.

How to get the most out of your lessons

When to Take Lessons

Ideally, you should start taking lessons 4-6 months before your wedding.  It takes time to build the confidence and comfort level.  So, plan ahead.  It is a good idea to leave some time for yourself to practice before your wedding day.  However, if you only have a few weeks, Xixi can certainly work with you to get you ready for your big day!

Your Wedding Song

Before your first wedding dance lesson, please email your wedding song to Xixi (send as an attachment to the email), if you have already chosen one.  Otherwise, spend some time thinking about it and email her your potential wedding songs.  Xixi will help you select a dance style that suits you best. Start listening and be familiarized with the rhythm of your wedding song.  This will help you in your dance movements.

When to Arrive at Lesson

Please arrive at the lesson location 5 to 10 minutes earlier so that you will start your lesson on time.  Please sign in and wait at the lobby until the hour to come up.  Your booked lesson time goes from the moment Xixi starts teaching to the moment when she completes your instruction.  You will have 55 minutes guaranteed learning and dancing time.

Practice Between Lessons

It is important for you and your fiancee to practice between lessons.  Each lesson builds upon the previous one.  It will increase your learning curve and help you understand the movement so much faster when you practice at home.  Practicing also allows you to come back with questions that may arise.  This is one important dance! So, even if you are super busy with work and wedding planning, try to squeeze in 15 minutes with your partner to practice after each lesson.

Dance Shoes

Ladies, find a pair of shoes that have similar heels to the wedding shoes that you will be wearing. It takes a bit of time to get used to dancing in heels if you haven't had any experience already.  There are also some special dance shoes that are perfect for your wedding. If you would like to find a pair of beautiful and comfortable dancing shoes, Xixi can make some recommendations for you.

Gentlemen, you may bring your regular dress shoes to the lessons as long as you feel comfortable in them.
